About the Dance Festival The Khajuraho Dance Festival is a seven day long festival. The festival is an attempt to revive and preserve the Indian cultural heritage. The festival was started in the year 1975 to celebrate the richness of Indian classical dance forms. The different types of Indian classical dance forms include Kathak, Kathakali, Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Manipuri and Mohiniyattam among the others. The dance festival takes place in front of the Chitragupta temple, which is dedicated to Lord Surya, and the Vishwanath temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The famous temples of Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh are famous for its archaeological excellence. The temples were built during the Chandela Dynasty between 250 and 1050 AD. The Temples of Khajuraho strike a perfect balance between architecture and sculpture. In the year 1986, UNESCO designated this group of temples as a world heritage site. Every year in the month of February - March, Khajuraho Dance Festival is organized by the Kala Parishad under the Madhya Pradesh government. Famous Classical Dancers from all over India performs during this Dance festival at Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The aim of organizing this event is to promote cultural heritage and traditional dances of India.
